Anthropic extends the higher Claude Code weekly limits, a day before they lapsed

Anthropic is extending a 50% increase to Claude Code’s weekly limits through August 31, 2026, the company said. The increase had been set to run through August 19, so the extension arrived a day before the earlier deadline expired. Anthropic also said it hopes to make the increase permanent.

Anthropic’s ClaudeDevs account announced the extension in a post on X that quotes its own July 18 announcement of the higher limits. That earlier post said the 50% increase applied to Pro, Max, Team and seat-based Enterprise users. The new post describes the change as an extension of the existing increase rather than a new percentage or a different limit structure, and it does not state the original weekly limits or the resulting totals.

Anthropic paired the extension with a capacity warning. It said strong demand for its models means capacity may be tight over the coming weeks. The company did not define what that would mean for users in practice, say whether to expect interruptions, or give usage figures behind the demand it cites.

For now the higher limit carries an end date rather than a plan change: it holds through August 31, 2026, while a permanent version is something the company says it hopes to implement. That leaves the longer-term limit unresolved. Anthropic said it would keep users posted as things develop, but it did not announce a date for a decision on permanence or describe the conditions for keeping the increase.
